Malacañang has declared August 5 as a special nonworking holiday.
This, according President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, is to give Filipinos an opportunity to honor and pay their respects to the late former President Corazon Aquino who will be laid to rest beside her late husband, Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino, Jr. at the Manila Memorial Park that same day.
“I, Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, President of the Republic of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law do hereby declare August 5, 2009, Wednesday, to be a special non-working holiday nationwide in honor of the late former President Corazon C. Aquino”
The chief executive declared a 10-day period of national mourning (Aug. 1 to Aug. 10) over the death of Aquino through Proclamation No. 1850.
