With Candy Pangilinan’s bravery and sincere apologies, the Igorots, who were deeply hurt by her offensive joke, decided to forgive her.
Last Monday, Candy Pangilinan personally attended the council’s hearing in Baguio on Monday to show that she was deeply remorseful over her mistake.
“I know that… I have offended and hurt you, for that I’m deeply sorry,”
During her show last May 9 in Baguio, Candy blurted out this joke “Tao po ako, hindi po ako Igorot.” This drew strong condemnations from the Igorot community.
The Baguio City council had long debated the issue until it finally decided to forgive her. Candy burst into tears upon hearing its decision. She said she learned her lesson and promised to promote their culture in her shows.
