‘Ako Mismo’ campaign questioned over privacy

Well-known personalities from different areas of the society were seen in this intriguing campaign advertisement on television known as “Ako Mismo.” First thing that comes to viewer’s mind is to ask what specifically is the “Ako Mismo” campaign all about?

The “Ako Mismo” patriotism campaign is now being questioned for its “secrecy” and possible privacy and security concerns.

If you will visit their website (www.akomismo.org),  you still need to sign up before you’re able to see more or know more about the said campaign. Their “About” and “Contact Us” pages were not accessible by a guest.

Also, a question being raised is the amount of information being asked from the registrant and how the site uses them.

According to Jaime Garchitorena, president of EduPro Philippines, an Intranet, Internet and e-Commerce solutions company,”The amount of information they have asked is so detailed that they can track you down to your zip code and contact you any time.”

The site does not make clear how the information will be used, leading to the possibility that the privacy of the individuals who supplied the information could be compromised, Garchitorena said in an interview.
