Like politics, art sometimes also clash with religion. This usually happen when a piece of art dishonors Jesus, Mary or other holy person, also known as saints.
This conflict occured with Playboy Mexico’s December issue which caused many to raise eyebrows and cried foul after seeing a nude lady resembling to Virgin Mary, Mother of Jesus.
Maria Florencia Onori was the covergirl for the said issue who posed in front of a stained glass window with the cover line, “Te Adoramos Maria” which means We Love You, Maria.

Chicago-based Playboy Enterprises released a statement which says:
“While Playboy Mexico never meant for the cover or images to offend anyone, we recognise that it has created offence, and we as well as Playboy Mexico offer our sincerest apologies”
Another statement from Raul Sayrols, publisher of Playboy Mexico, said:
“The image is not and never was intended to portray the Virgin of Guadalupe or any other religious figure. The intent was to reflect a Renaissance-like mood on the cover.”
