Peruvians honor today Philippines’ national hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal with a monument. The ceremony will happen a couple of hours before the formal opening of the 16th Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) leader’s meeting at Lima, Peru.
Rizal is known as a great Filipino whose works ignited the revolt against Western conjugation not only in the Philippines but also in Asia. He was also tagged as “Pride of the Malay Race” by historians being the first Asian to introduce Western Ideas of social and political liberalism.
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will lead the unveiling of Rizal’s bronze bust located at Rizal Park in la Molina District, Lima, Peru.
