After a 7.9 magnitude quake jolted Sichuan, China that killed 70,000 people last May 12, an alarming text message says that a 6.8 magnitude earthquake that was supposed to hit the Philippines on May 14 (source) which forced the the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) to release a statement that the text message was a hoax.
Now, another disturbing e-mail message spreads like wildfire as it says that a Brazilian psychic named Jucelino Nóbrega da Luz predicted that an earthquake with a magnitude of 8.1 will hit the Philippines on July 18, 2008.
Jucelino Nóbrega da Luz was said to have predicted Princess Diana’s death, among others.
According to PHIVOLCS Director Renato Solidum Jr., a person who receives such a message should ask, “Does this person exist? They have to verify if that person exists and check whatever statement made supposedly by that person… You have to know the veracity of that e-mail”
Also, he cautioned the public against spreading wrong information to other people. He reminded the public that not all things written on the web or sent through text messages are true and he reiterated that scientists still cannot predict when an earthquake will strike.
Whether this prophesy is true or a hoax, Filipinos must know what to do before, during and after an earthquake. Earthquakes can happen anytime, especially in earthquake-prone countries such as the Philippines.

So is PHILVOCS refuting this prophesy? Have they checked whatever they’re supposed to check to see if it’s true or not? Because your headline/title says “don’t believe…” but there isn’t any additional info why except because PHIVOLCS Director Renato Solidum Jr. said so. i suppose there is more to this blog post than what is written?
I emailed PHILVOCS thru their website so they could check if there is something that’s gonna happen but it seems their website is down today and i still haven’t received any email reply…
oh well… i guess we should just pray and hope it doesn’t come true.
