Ten-time world champion Oscar de la Hoya managed to defeat Steve Forbes through a unanimous decision over a 12-round boxing fight at the Home Depot Soccer Stadium in Carson, California.
De La Hoya plans to close out his boxing career in 2008 with an impressive performance to help set up a second fight with Mayweather.
Forbes could have derailed those plans but De La Hoya is eager to fulfill his plan. The decision according to two judges was 119-109, while the third saw it 120-108.
The 35-year-old Mexican-American boxer who has won 10 world titles in six weight divisions, improved to 39-5 while the 31-year-old Forbes, fell to 33-6.
