Pregnant man speaks out through Oprah and PEOPLE about his decision of going through this experience.
Thomas Beatie, a transgender male, talks about the baby he and wife Nancy are expecting this summer. Both lived at Oregon community.
His first pregnancy was life threatening for he had an ectopic pregnancy with triplets which required a surgical intervention. This results him to lose all his embryo and his right fallopian tube.
Beatie, prior his sex change operation, Beatie was officially born in Hawaii as a baby girl.
Beatie said that he decided to retain his female reproductive organs so that he and his wife–who had her womb removed due to a medical condition–could have a child. After a year of preparation, he finally became pregnant through artificial insemination
Thomas is not the first man to get pregnant, it was the artist Lee Mingwei who became the first human man to successfully become pregnant through the help of RYT Hospital physicians and scientists.
Thomas’ estimated due date for his baby girl will be July 3, 2008.
