The famous Malu Fernandez who once was the topic of almost all blogs in the entire blogosphere who was said to be irresponsible, elitist, bigoted, and discriminating, is here to give her piece about the problem with blogging.
The columnist of Manila Standard Today first stressed that it has nothing to do with her previous issue, her article about the OFWs, but if you’ll read her entry, there’s still a hint of hostility and hatred.
She pointed out the good and the bad side of blogging.
The Bad Side:
According to her, blogging is a slacker job or a medium and pastime for lonely people to connect.
As we all know almost all of the bloggers out there were professionals, working hard to earn and only blog to express one’s self, learn new things, be a journalist and editor-in-chief of his online journal, and yes it a pastime but not for lonely people to connect.
The difference between a journalist and a blogger is that journalists have to adhere to certain guidelines that govern the freedom of speech. And whatever a journalist chooses to write about—be it popular or unpopular—we do not hide behind an anonymous name and are resigned to the fact that we have to take as much as we dish out. However, I simply detest people who place vicious comments and slanderous statements in blogs yet sign their messages as ‘anonymous.’ If you have something to say, don’t hide behind a false name. It’s just plain cowardice of you to do so. I have more of a deep sense of respect for those—however unpopular or vicious their statements are—who post their views with their real names and make no bones about it. At least they stand for something; I would rather take it from them than the cowards that hide behind false names.
Think first. False names were customarily used by our famous heroes like Dr. Jose Rizal, M.H. del Pilar, Andres Bonifacio, and others as they fight against the Spaniards. I think there are a lot of reasons behind those aliases used by most of us here in the entire blogosphere and for sure Ms. Fernandez is also using an alias as she chat, maybe blog or comment on other’s blog. (Aminin! ‘Wag i-deny!)
If using a false name is being coward, then be it than regret using my real name for the rest of my life (magamit pa yun sa masama ng iba wag na lang!).
Perhaps it is the Filipino culture to foster backstabbing because they never mean what they say face to face.
Maybe this is what she should tell to herself after bashing and discriminating the OFWs. If I’m not mistaken, I have read another article with a title “Am I being a diva? Or do you lack common sense?” which she wrote regarding the blog articles, anonymous blogs engaged in bigotry, discrimination, and hatred towards her. She said that the article “From Boracay to Greece” was written for a certain target audience, so it might mean that she never thought that this kind of article can never be understood by those who are not in the high society. She can’t tell it straight to those people she’ve travelled with about her feelings and whinings (maybe putting up a friendly facade to cover up her annoyment) and just wrote a rude and obnoxious article. Anyway that was part of the past.
Now, the Good One:
On the flipside blogging can be a good source of information and a great way to exchange ideas. This I strongly encourage whether it is about politics, fashion, food or whatever topic you may choose. Friendly and healthy discussions are always great.
And that was one of the best thing she said, aside from her public apology.
Just a thought to ponder on… Maybe I should start an anonymous blog and really let go… but then again I don’t want to be responsible for World War Three and I would sleep much better being brutally honest in your face than hide behind an anonymous name. Wouldn’t it be hilarious if I started a blog just to shake things up and got a ton of money in advertising? If I do decide to do that I thank you all in advance for inspiring me… I’m always a glass half full kinda girl anyway…
Try it, you might be able to understand us. If not, then maybe “ARE WE being a diva? Or do you lack common sense?” Right back at yah!
I may not be good in English like you but at least I know how to be human. - toingks

hay, there she goes again. maybe she is a war freak, no? or she has ADD because she obviously wants to get people’s attention.
