Mitch Felipe, a writer on the Lifestyle section of Philippine Daily Inquirer, talks about why it’s hard to shrink your waistline. A good article that gives an idea on why its hard and how to help shrink waistline.
Why it’s hard to reduce waistline?
According to her, people want to have a smaller waistline but are not trying harder because they are not yet alarmed or aware of its health consequences.
The waist-to-hip ratio (waist measurement divided by hip measurement) is associated on the health risk of a person. Increased health risk for women is .80 waist-to-hip ratio while .90 is for men.
Unrealistic expectations
People tend to admire the abs of fitness instructors, celebrities and models. Which end up expecting to have the same immediate effect on their body.
Consider body type and genes and remember that it takes time to see visible results.
Seasonal goals
Mitch also said that people tend to get fit seasonally. For example, this coming summer, people will go to gym to get fit with and look good with their swim wear but tend to relax afterwards where they end up regaining their weight or worst double their size.
Aim for a long term goal to decrease size and weight.
Wrong belief
Eating right and having ab crunches everyday won’t always do the trick. It’s more than that. Being active combined with proper eating will help reduce fat.
Exercises that combine weights and cardio is better than just doing the ab workout.
Mitch also said that your waistline is the result of the lifestyle you have chosen. Reducing its size will be possible through lifestyle modifications and a renewed thinking. Do not expect instant results, like a flat tummy or toned abs. It takes time, patience and balance to achieve them.
As for me, just remember, you are what you eat.
Have a flat tummy day!
