In a survey fielded by the Social Weather Station (SWS) last November 30 - December 3, 2007, they found out that Forty percent of adult Filipinos, or about 21 million, believe in Cupid.
“Naniniwala po ba kayo kay Kupido?” was the survey question. Here are the survey results:
- By Area: Belief in Cupid is 49% in Visayas, 47% in Metro Manila, and 36% each in Balance Luzon and Mindanao.
- Per Class:It is relatively higher among class E, with 46%, compared to class D, with 39%, and class ABC (36%).
- Gender: Belief in Cupid is similar among men, with 40%, and women, with 41%.
- By Educational Attainment: It is higher among those with at most some high school education (43%), some college education (41%), and at least a college degree (40%), compared to those with at most some elementary education (33%)
- By civil status: half (51%) of those with live-in partners say they believe in Cupid, compared to 40% among those who are married and 37% among those who are single or never been married
- About three out of five (62%) women with live-in partners believe in Cupid, compared to 42% of married women and 31% of women who are single or never been married
- Belief in Cupid hardly varies among men of different status. It is 43% both among men who are single or never been married and men with live-in partners, and 38% among married men.
- The survey also found that over 4 out of 5 (85%) of those who believe in Cupid say they “have already been struck by his arrow.”
