Calamares or fried breaded squid is a simple squid dish usually served in many Mediterranean countries’ restaurants such as Greece, Italy, Spain and Turkey.
Calamares is also one of the best selling street food and pulutan in the Philippines.
Ingredients:
1 kg squid , big
1 cup cornstarch
2 eggs
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp vetsin (MSG)
1/2 tsp pepper
oil for deep frying
Procedure:
1. Clean squid (remove the head, ink and skin) then drain.
2. Cut squids into rings and set aside.
3. Beat eggs, blend in cornstarch, salt, MSG and pepper. Mix well.
4. Dip squid rings into batter.
5. Deep fry coated squid rings in hot oil until slightly golden.
6. Drain in absorbent paper towel and cool.
7. Serve in platter with sauce made up of vinegar, onion, labuyo and a pinch of sugar and salt.
