Elisabeth Claiborne (a.k.a. Liz Claiborne), a fashion designer of career women’s wardrobes in the 1970s and 1980s, died at the age of 78.
She started at various Seventh Avenue sportswear and dressmaking firms before having her own with a goal of creating a collection of fashion aimed at the growing number of women entering the work force.
Claiborne has cancer and died at New York-Presbyterian Hospital on Tuesday.
